Brad Birkelo

Senior Vice President, Subsurface

Brad Birkelo is the Senior Vice President, Subsurface at BKV Corporation. With over three decades of experience in oil and gas, Brad is responsible for well planning and the Geoscience teams in support of operations in northeastern Pennsylvania, the Fort Worth Basin and any operational well planning for new ventures.

Prior to BKV, Brad worked for Spectraseis and served in various leadership positions, including Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Surface and Induced Seismicity, where he oversaw field operations and technical work across the western hemisphere. During this time, he pioneered several unconventional reservoir evaluation techniques from microseismic data that characterize fracture stimulation performance. Brad also served as a partner of a consulting company in Houston and Midland, supervising a variety of conventional and unconventional reservoirs in both development and exploration settings. He began his career with Phillips Petroleum.

Brad received a BS in Geology and a BS in Geophysics from The University of Minnesota and earned an MS in Geophysics from The University of Kansas. He was awarded Life Member in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and served as Secretary-Treasurer for one year. He is past-President of the Permian Basin Geophysical Society and a current Chair of the Denver Geophysical Society’s 3D Seismic Symposium. In 2019, he was awarded the Erasmus Haworth Distinguished Alumni Honors in Geology from The University of Kansas.

In his free time, Brad enjoys all of the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer, including fly fishing, elk hunting, skiing and bike riding.
